History
Small Business Consulting Service was created
in 1972 by Lakehead University Honours Bachelor of Commerce students.
From 1972 to March 1993, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and
Technology (MITT) funded SBCS by providing operating grants and
variable revenue. In April 1993, MITT announced that it would
no longer fund the organization and as a result, a team of students
decided to operate the business independently of the funding.
Not only did SBCS earn record revenues, we also provided employment
for 14 student consultants. The business has operated in this
manner ever since by leveraging student education to provide
an affordable service to the community.
